Mild hybrid electrification advances the 255-hp 2.0L inline-4 turbo engine. A 48-volt Integrated Starter-Generator allows fuel-free coasting, and can recapture energy during deceleration. It can also supply up to 23 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque for added response on demand. And the gasoline engine is further enhanced with a more efficient turbocharger, CAMTRONIC variable valve lift, and friction-reducing CONICSHAPE cylinders with NANOSLIDE walls.
Electrifying the inline-4 gasoline engine is an innovative Integrated Starter-Generator. It teams with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery to supply power for some formerly belt-driven components such as the water pump, reducing weight and enhancing underhood packaging. In addition, the electric assist can generate additional, gas-free power and torque (up to 23 hp and 151 lb-ft) for immediate response.
An ECO Start/Stop system can automatically shut off the engine at stoplights and other idle situations, to save fuel and reduce emissions. As soon as the driver lifts off the brake, the engine instantly restarts, for immediate acceleration response. The ECO Start/Stop system can also be shut off by the driver at any time.
A multimode drive program selector on the console lets you transform the car's character with the flip of a switch. A range of modes (ECO, Comfort and Sport) can alter the throttle response, shift points, steering effort, and ECO Start/Stop system. A separate "Individual" mode allows you to create a mode of your own, even letting you set the transmission for purely manual shifting.
The wide grille is outlined in chrome and set into a black panel that connects it to the sleek LED headlamps. The iconic Star is centered in a single crossbar, finished in gloss black and inlaid with chrome. The grille's texture features a three-dimensional Star motif expressed in glistening chrome.
Aggressive sculpting of the front apron, flared side sills and diffuser-style rear valance emphasize the athletic performance of the E-Class.
Five wide, dark grey spokes are each trisected by thin silver ribs. The spokes narrow as they flow into one another near the wheel center for a modern, sporty appearance. The 18-inch alloy wheels are fitted with all-season Extended Mobility tires.
Black Ash wood, finished in a modern low sheen that brings out its natural grain and texture, accents the console. It can be paired with either of the Natural Grain Black Ash dash trims, or with the MBUX Superscreen dash and Piano Black accents.
MB-Tex upholstery offers a rich appearance and supple leather-like feel, even in cold weather. It also offers legendary durability and easy care. Carefully tailored stitching flows up the seatback, in concert with the natural human form.
The large, 14.4-inch central touchscreen offers more easily visible readouts, navigation maps, and illustrated and animated menus. An advanced menu concept lets you display multiple functions at once, and keeps frequently used features such as the climate control readily accessible. In addition, you can access the screen via the right Touch Control Button on the steering wheel.
A leap forward in audio quality, FrontBass takes advantage of the E-Class bodyshell by utilizing the rigid front frame structure as a resonance chamber for an under-dash subwoofer. One FrontBass module is standard, with the available Burmester® 4D system adding a second. In addition to providing rich, precise bass throughout the interior, the design saves weight and frees up space in the cabin and doors.
Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology allows wireless charging of a compatible phone or other device that supports the Qi standard. An inductive charging tray in the front-cabin console lets you charge your device's battery while you drive without plugging it in.
Selectable via MBUX is a program that can minutely adjust the seat cushion and backrest, as well as the multicontour lumbar supports, on an ongoing basis while you drive. The virtually imperceptible adjustments can help reduce driving fatigue based on a patented algorithm.
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship for 48-months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For added protection, the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty offers continued peace of mind with prolonged coverage tailored to your needs.
Adaptive braking technology integrates a suite of advances. If you lift off the accelerator quickly, Predictive Brake Priming can set the pads closer to the discs for more immediate response when you apply the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying can periodically apply the brakes just enough to sweep water build-up from the discs. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist can help prevent unwanted rollback. And a HOLD feature can make long red lights or stopped traffic a little easier.
An advanced system of 7 air bags offers 9-way occupant protection. Standard are dual two-stage front air bags and combined thorax/pelvic bags for the driver and front passenger, plus a knee air bag for the driver, and side curtain air bags for both seating rows.
When traveling above approximately 8 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then help alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. An audible warning sounds if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. After parking, Exit Warning Assist can alert the driver or passengers to vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.
The advanced Surround View System uses cameras in all four directions to compose a single, live overhead view of your immediate surroundings. Displayed on the central in-dash screen during low-speed maneuvers, it can help you avoid obstacles as you negotiate tight spaces, whether you're moving forward or backing up.
