The high-performance battery benefits from the close collaboration of AMG engineers and the AMG-Petronas Formula 1® team, from cooling to high energy density with light weight design. The E 53's 400-volt/28.6-kWh battery is located below the trunk floor. While its peak output is reserved for brief periods of electric boost during high-performance driving, 21.2 kWh is available for everyday driving. Replenishment can occur via onboard or plug-in charging, including fast DC charging, or from recuperation via regenerative braking.
The seamless power and natural balance of an inline-6 pair with another Mercedes-AMG tradition: a technological leap forward. The lightweight, fully beltless and comprehensively upgraded engine is part of an advanced Performance Hybrid system. Even on its own, the gas engine is highly responsive. Along with a new twin-scroll turbo with 21.8 psi of max boost, enhancements to its internal hardware, engine software and airflow raise the gas-only output to 443 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque on its own.
Advanced Performance Hybrid technology pairs high-performance gas and electric power with advanced ancillary components. A belt-driven starter-generator (RSG) handles engine starting, and cabin comfort and electrical systems. And while the electric motor is designed to prioritize performance over range, it can deliver up to 42 miles of all-electric driving. That helps to make the AMG E 53 HYBRID a highly practical high-performance sedan.
Specific AMG programming of the 9-speed automatic transmission delivers quicker gear changes in the paddle-shifted Manual mode. In the Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Slippery modes of AMG DYNAMIC SELECT, the wide range of closely spaced ratios offers an ideal blend of smooth, efficient performance in virtually every driving situation, from relaxed cruising to quick acceleration. Three overdrive ratios further enhance highway fuel efficiency.
AMG® wheels are available in a variety of designs and colors. Standard fitment is a staggered-width 20-inch design, while lightweight forged 21-inch wheels are available in silver or black.
Details further define the muscular E 53 HYBRID's physique. Two AMG Night Packages cloak various body elements in gloss black. A rear lip spoiler is available painted to match the car or as part of a suite of carbon fiber accents.
Offering both front- and rear-seat passengers sweeping skyward views, this fully functional glass sunroof features a front panel that can either tilt up for ventilation or slide over the rear panel for an open-air feeling. An interior power shade lets you adjust the amount of sunlight entering the cabin.
Innovative Touch Controls elevate the multifunction steering wheel to an unparalleled level of user-friendliness. Finger-sensitive buttons access features like audio, Bluetooth® and cruise control. Four smartphone-like pads offer direct control of countless cockpit features. The upper touchpads operate the menu screen in the gauge cluster or the central multimedia display. Larger, lower touchpads let you vary your cruising speed or adjust the audio volume, all with your hands on the wheel.
State-of-the-art USB-C connectors in the center console and armrest allow plug-and-play enjoyment from your compatible devices as well as fast charging of your phone. Providing 15W maximum combined power, it's also suitable for data transfer with the vehicle. A 12V power outlet is also provided at the front of the console.
Access the internet from your vehicle without using your smartphone's data plan. It's easy to sign up directly in your car's multimedia system or on the provider's website, and no additional vehicle options are required. And with a secure, high-speed connection for up to eight compatible devices, your passengers can stay connected on the go.
A network of LEDs can create not just a soothing ambience in the cabin, but one you can alter to suit your mood, or even create one. Along with 64 individually selectable colors, variable brightness and three lighting zones, 10 color moods can combine or sequence colors.
Intuitive, seat-shaped controls help you and your front passenger find your ideal seating positions, including 4-way power lumbar support. A memory system for each front seat recalls three stored seat positions with the touch of a button. The driver-seat memory also includes the power steering column and side mirror positions.
A leap forward in audio quality, FrontBass takes advantage of the E-Class bodyshell by utilizing the rigid front frame structure as a resonance chamber for an under-dash subwoofer. Two FrontBass modules are integrated with the Burmester® 4D system. In addition to providing rich, precise bass throughout the interior, the design saves weight and frees up space in the cabin and doors.
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship for 48-months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For added protection, the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty offers continued peace of mind with prolonged coverage tailored to your needs.
A Mercedes-Benz first, PRE-SAFE® can detect instability during certain vehicle maneuvers that suggest a collision or rollover is imminent. It can then tighten the front seat belts, adjust the front passenger seat, and close the windows and sunroof, all in an effort to better prepare the occupants and restraints in the moments before a collision. If no accident occurs, the seat-belt tensioners reverse, and you simply readjust your seat, open the sunroof and continue on your way.
When traveling above approximately 8 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then help alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. An audible warning sounds if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. After parking, Exit Warning Assist can alert the driver or passengers to vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.
Adaptive braking technology integrates a suite of advances. If you lift off the accelerator quickly, Predictive Brake Priming can set the pads closer to the discs for more immediate response when you apply the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying can periodically apply the brakes just enough to sweep water build-up from the discs. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist can help prevent unwanted rollback. And a HOLD feature can make long red lights or stopped traffic a little easier.
The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) can automatically detect a substantial loss of tire pressure in any wheel and alert the driver via a warning message in the multifunction display. The advanced TPMS can also display the numeric tire pressure for each mounted wheel.
