3.0L inline-6 turbo engine with mild hybrid drive

The smooth power and natural balance of an inline-6 pair with another Mercedes-Benz tradition: a technological leap ahead. The lightweight, beltless engine is electrified with an Integrated Starter-Generator that can add up to 23 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque, allow gas-free coasting, and recapture energy during deceleration. With a twin-scroll turbo, CAMTRONIC variable valve lift, and friction-reducing NANOSLIDE cylinder walls, the gas engine outputs 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque on its own.

Hybrid Integrated Starter-Generator

Electrifying the inline-6 gasoline engine is an innovative Integrated Starter-Generator. It teams with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery to supply power for some formerly belt-driven components such as the water pump, reducing weight and enhancing underhood packaging. In addition, the electric assist can generate additional, gas-free power and torque (up to 23 hp and 151 lb-ft) for immediate response.

9G-TRONIC automatic transmission

With a wide range of ratios and shorter steps between gears, the 9-speed automatic changes gears quickly yet smoothly. 7 air bags

An advanced system of 7 air bags offers 9-way occupant protection. Standard are dual two-stage front air bags and combined thorax/pelvic bags for the driver and front passenger, plus a knee air bag for the driver, and side curtain air bags for both seating rows.

Brake Assist (BAS)

Brake Assist (BAS^®) can sense emergency braking via the speed at which the driver presses the brake pedal and immediately apply maximum available power boost. Brake Assist can potentially reduce the overall stopping distance by eliminating the delay caused by a common human tendency not to brake hard enough, soon enough. Letting up on the brake pedal releases Brake Assist.

Blind Spot Assist with Exit Warning Assist

When traveling above approximately 8 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then help alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. An audible warning sounds if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. After parking, Exit Warning Assist can alert the driver or passengers to vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.

ATTENTION ASSIST

The first system of its kind, ATTENTION ASSIST^® can continuously monitor up to 70 parameters of driving behavior, and automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips. With enhanced sensitivity, the system can also help detect drivers who begin their trip drowsy, and offer useful information to drivers along their journey via a dashboard display.
