The legendary AMG biturbo V8 heart beats even stronger in the S 63 E PERFORMANCE. While part of a hybrid system, the gas engine alone can generate a breathtaking 604 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. Twin-scroll turbos with low-friction bearings are located in the engine's "hot V" for massive, virtually-lag-free boost. Zero to 60 mph can occur in just 3.3 seconds. Yet even with its advanced technologies, each engine is still hand-built and signed by its own craftsman.
A 201-hp "permanently excited synchronous motor" (PSM) is mounted at the rear axle, part of an Electric Drive Unit that also includes a two-speed gearbox. Able to apply its torque instantly at full strength, its output can enhance takeoffs and passing, and even be sent toward the front wheels to enhance handling on a variety of surfaces. Together, the biturbo V8 and electric motor have a combined output of 791 hp and 1,055 lb-ft of torque.
The rear-mounted Electric Drive Unit integrates the electric motor with an automated two-speed gearbox that offers the e-motor's benefits over a wider range of speeds. The EDU can also provide the benefits of a virtual limited-slip differential, by precisely apportioning the torque to each wheel based on changing demands as you corner, accelerate and brake. It can also adapt to road-surface friction, lateral forces and other conditions in real time, for enhanced cornering and feedback.
The 9-speed multiclutch transmission is effective, efficient and enjoyable. AMG SPEEDSHIFT® MCT technology shortens shift times and offers quick multi-gear downshifts. A wet startup clutch eliminates the torque converter, to improve performance and help save weight. The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT Sport, Sport+ and RACE programs, as well as a selectable Manual mode, progressively quicken upshifts and rev-match downshifts, while Comfort mode can decouple the driveline to save fuel when coasting.
For the first time on an AMG S-Class, the iconic Star moves to the center of the AMG vertical-bar grille. On the hood is the AMG "Affalterbach" crest. The deep front apron, sculpted side sills and rear bumper all add an aggressively aerodynamic edge to the flowing, muscle-toned S-Class body.
A range of AMG® wheel options sized 20 or 21 inches includes a variety of designs in silver, black or polished finishes, and cast or forged-alloy construction. All the wheels are staggered, with wider rear tires to enhance launch grip while the front tires are optimized for crisp steering feedback.
AMG logos illuminate in a soft white glow as you open the door, to welcome you into the cabin or ease your exit.
In S-Class fashion, the rear cabin offers unrivaled comfort. Spacious yet highly detailed, three rear seating packages increasingly elevate comfort, up to a twin-seat configuration whose console is equipped with folding tables and an available refrigerated compartment.
The digital cockpit offers a high degree of personal choice, including reconfigurable AMG instrumentation and 64-color active ambient lighting. You can save up to 800 parameters in a profile you call up by fingerprint, and can even use in other Mercedes-Benz models.
Resplendent luxury is delivered with responsive technology that listens to your voice and cares for your comfort. And while the indulgence is abundant, it's also a highly involving experience for all aboard, with features that engage the senses and earn the S-Class name.
Place and answer calls, and even access select phonebooks without taking your hands off the steering wheel with standard Bluetooth® connectivity for hands-free calling. Pairing your Bluetooth-compatible phone with the vehicle is simpler than ever. Then, just leave your phone in your pocket and enjoy hands-free conversations over the audio system.
An added enhancement to the standard heated front seats, this rapid-warming feature quickly replaces the chill of a cold day or evening with nearly instant heating of the seat. The feature automatically switches to the normal heating settings as soon as the desired temperature is reached.
Electrically operated mesh screens keep harsh sunlight and prying eyes out of the rear cabin. The driver and either rear passenger can operate the sunblinds, which cover both the main window and quarter window, via buttons on each door.
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship for 48-months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For added protection, the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty offers continued peace of mind with prolonged coverage tailored to your needs.
When cruising with DISTRONIC® engaged, this innovation can allow the driver to execute a lane change simply by activating a turn signal with a tap of the lever. The system is designed to sense when you're traveling on a multilane highway, and whether the area across the dashed lane marking is clear for a lane-change, then precisely steer into the adjacent lane. Enhancements can lengthen the system's search phase for an opening, and change lanes more deftly.
Using the technology of Blind Spot Assist after you park, Exit Warning Assist can watch for vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.
When using Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® cruise control in stop-and-go traffic, the vehicle can normally resume automatically when traffic moves if the pause is less than three seconds. This innovative enhancement can help sense some traffic conditions that require longer pauses, and extend this interval to up to 30 seconds, to make driving in traffic easier and less stressful. If the pause is longer, the driver need only tap the resume button or accelerator pedal to proceed.
This breakthrough system can instantly activate if you initiate an evasive maneuver while the vehicle's sensors detect an impending risk of collision with a pedestrian in your path. The system can provide a calculated steering force to assist you in executing the move, then help ease the straightening of the vehicle in the adjacent lane after the maneuver.
