4.0L V8 biturbo engine

Advanced performance comes from a high-output engine with a remarkably compact size. The 416-hp 4.0L biturbo V8 is more responsive than some larger engines, making 100% of its 450 lb-ft of peak torque available from 2,000-4,750 rpm, for a 5.6-second 0-60 rush and brisk response at any speed. And its innovative design combines racing-derived technology, from its turbocharger layout to its low-friction cylinder walls.

Three lockable differentials

As you make your way off-road, three sequentially lockable differentials offer increasingly masterful capability. Each differential can be locked in sequence (center, rear, then front) via a set of buttons on the dash, to help maintain the ideal balance of torque and traction for the situation.

9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission

With a greater range of ratios and shorter steps between gears, the 9-speed automatic changes gears more quickly but nearly imperceptibly. Along with a more seamless delivery of power, the lighter, more versatile transmission enhances quiet riding comfort and, with three overdrive ratios, fuel-efficiency. The electronic selector and shift paddles let you control all gear changes with your hands on the steering wheel. And drivers can vary the shift modes via the innovative DYNAMIC SELECT system.

DYNAMIC SELECT

A multimode drive program selector on the console lets you dial in the vehicle's performance character to suit your needs or your mood. DYNAMIC SELECT offers four preset modes: ECO, Comfort, Sport and a new Desert mode, plus an Individual mode you can configure a la carte. Each mode adapts the throttle response, shift programming, ESP and available suspension damping. Desert is tailored for sandy surfaces, and can be selected in high range and without differential locks engaged.

LED Intelligent Light System headlamps

Pioneered by Mercedes-Benz, active LED headlamps can generate light that's perceived much like natural daylight. Active Curve Illumination and Adaptive Highbeam Assist continuously vary the beam pattern of the LEDs in each headlamp to help maximize the illumination of corners and straightaways, without creating glare for other drivers.

Power tilt/sliding glass sunroof

The standard G-Class sunroof features heat-rejecting tinted glass. At the touch of a button, the sunroof tilts up at the rear for ventilation, or slides open for a breezy view of the sky. An express feature fully opens or closes the roof with a single touch, and a manual sliding sunshade helps block out unwanted sunlight.

In addition to the separate left and right temperature controls, a third zone is dedicated to the rear cabin. Along with fully automatic or manual control of blower speed and airflow distribution, the system includes a humidity sensor, a dust/pollen filter, and an activated charcoal filter that helps remove odors from the cabin air. The rear-cabin settings can be adjusted from control panels in the dash and in the second row.

60/40-split folding rear seats

The G-Class accommodates up to 68.6 cubic feet of cargo with the 60/40-split rear seats folded. Floor-mounted tie-downs, a side parcel net, and a 12-volt power outlet add to its convenience.

Steering wheel with Touch Control Buttons

Innovative Touch Controls elevate the multifunction steering wheel to an unparalleled level of user-friendliness. In addition to fingertip buttons for features like audio, Bluetooth^® and cruise control, smartphone-like pads offer direct control of nearly every cockpit feature. Swiping through menus is easy: Your left thumb operates the menu screen in the gauge cluster, and your right thumb controls the large central COMAND display, without taking your hands from the wheel's Nappa leather rim.

12.3-inch digital instrument cluster display

A 12.3-inch high-resolution color screen in front of the driver offers customizable instrumentation. Selectable designs let you choose among analog-style gauges plus digital and graphical readouts. A multifunction screen can offer illustrated and animated menus, plus readouts for vehicle information, feature settings and driver-assistance systems. It's easy to scroll through the menus via the left steering-wheel Touch Control Button.

COMAND system with touchpad controller

The Cockpit Management and Data (COMAND^®) system offers intuitive access to a world of entertainment, navigation and convenience. Blind Spot Assist

When traveling above approximately 20 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. An audible warning sounds if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. After parking, Exit Warning Assist can alert the driver or passengers to vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.

Active Lane Keeping Assist

With technology to monitor ordinary road markings at most driving speeds, Active Lane Keeping Assist can help detect unintended drifting off-course, and alert you by vibrating the steering wheel. If you continue to drift, it can selectively brake individual wheels to help guide the car back into its lane.

PRE-SAFE Sound

An important enhancement to the industry-first PRE-SAFE^® system can help reduce the effects of a collision on occupants' hearing. When the sensors of PRE-SAFE detect an impending impact, it can emit a special "pink noise" tone via the audio system just before the collision. The tone's frequency is tuned to pre-trigger a natural reflex within the human ear canal that helps shut out loud noises in advance of the actual impact.

PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist

Active Parking Assist can search for parallel or perpendicular parking spaces to either side as you drive by. Choose a space to pull or back into, and it can expertly steer and brake for you. When it's time to leave, it can also steer you back out. In any low-speed maneuver, PARKTRONIC sensors in the front and rear bumpers can help detect nearby objects within their field of view.
