Advanced performance comes from a high-output engine with a remarkably compact size. The 416-hp 4.0L biturbo V8 is more responsive than some larger engines, making 100% of its 450 lb-ft of peak torque available from 2,000-4,750 rpm, for a 5.6-second 0-60 rush and brisk response at any speed. And its innovative design combines racing-derived technology, from its turbocharger layout to its low-friction cylinder walls.
The G-Class features all-wheel drive equipped with a 2-speed transfer case and an extraordinary three lockable differentials, all to help drivers tackle a variety of terrains and conditions. With its 9-speed automatic transmission and two transfer-case ranges, the G-Class offers one of the widest spans of gear ratios of any SUV. So whether you're crawling down a steep hill or cruising on the highway, there's an optimum gear for the situation.
As you make your way off-road, three sequentially lockable differentials offer increasingly masterful capability. Each differential can be locked in sequence (center, rear, then front) via a set of buttons on the dash, to help maintain the ideal balance of torque and traction for the situation.
With a greater range of ratios and shorter steps between gears, the 9-speed automatic changes gears more quickly but nearly imperceptibly. Along with a more seamless delivery of power, the lighter, more versatile transmission enhances quiet riding comfort and, with three overdrive ratios, fuel-efficiency. The electronic selector and shift paddles let you control all gear changes with your hands on the steering wheel. And drivers can vary the shift modes via the innovative DYNAMIC SELECT system.
Pioneered by Mercedes-Benz, active LED headlamps can generate light that's perceived much like natural daylight. Active Curve Illumination and Adaptive Highbeam Assist continuously vary the beam pattern of the LEDs in each headlamp to help maximize the illumination of corners and straightaways, without creating glare for other drivers.
The standard G-Class sunroof features heat-rejecting tinted glass. At the touch of a button, the sunroof tilts up at the rear for ventilation, or slides open for a breezy view of the sky. An express feature fully opens or closes the roof with a single touch, and a manual sliding sunshade helps block out unwanted sunlight.
Dozens of gloss and matte paint colors, numerous 19-inch and 20-inch wheels, and a range of AMG Line and Night Package styling options let you start your G-Class adventure when it's being crafted. Where you take it is up to you.
Activated charcoal filtration teams with an ionizer that uses an electrical charge to create the same fresh-air sensation you experience after a summer storm. Airborne impurities and odors are virtually eliminated from the cabin to provide air quality that's more enjoyable and healthier, especially for those with asthma or allergies.
To help you keep your portable devices charged while on the road, convenient 12-volt power ports are located in both seating rows, while a household-style 115-volt outlet is provided in the cargo area.
Innovative Touch Controls elevate the multifunction steering wheel to an unparalleled level of user-friendliness. In addition to fingertip buttons for features like audio, Bluetooth® and cruise control, smartphone-like pads offer direct control of nearly every cockpit feature. Swiping through menus is easy: Your left thumb operates the menu screen in the gauge cluster, and your right thumb controls the large central COMAND display, without taking your hands from the wheel's Nappa leather rim.
A 12.3-inch high-resolution color screen in front of the driver offers customizable instrumentation. Selectable designs let you choose among analog-style gauges plus digital and graphical readouts. A multifunction screen can offer illustrated and animated menus, plus readouts for vehicle information, feature settings and driver-assistance systems. It's easy to scroll through the menus via the left steering-wheel Touch Control Button.
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship for 48-months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For added protection, the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty offers continued peace of mind with prolonged coverage tailored to your needs.
A Mercedes-Benz innovation, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® cruise control uses radar-based technology to adapt your set speed in response to the flow of traffic ahead. If traffic slows down, it can reduce your speed automatically until your path clears. If the vehicle ahead slows to a stop, it can brake to a full halt. When traffic moves, you can resume with just a tap of the accelerator or cruise control lever, or it can resume automatically if the stop is under three seconds.
With technology to monitor ordinary road markings at most driving speeds, Active Lane Keeping Assist can help detect unintended drifting off-course, and alert you by vibrating the steering wheel. If you continue to drift, it can selectively brake individual wheels to help guide the car back into its lane.
When traveling above approximately 20 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. An audible warning sounds if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. After parking, Exit Warning Assist can alert the driver or passengers to vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.
The first system of its kind, ATTENTION ASSIST® continuously monitors up to 70 parameters of driving behavior, and can automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips. With enhanced sensitivity, the system can also help detect drivers who begin their trip drowsy, and offer more useful information to drivers along their journey via a dashboard display.
