GLS capability has many dimensions, but they all aim to outmeasure any other large luxury SUV. Rigid standards create a flexible vehicle that's spacious yet agile. At home on a trail, with a trailer, or coddling you in its fine tailoring.
The GLS 450's 362-hp turbo inline-6 offers advanced tech and abundant torque. Featuring hybrid electrification, its Integrated Starter-Generator can also add 21 hp, or allow gas-free coasting and lower emissions.
Electrifying the inline-6 gasoline engine is an innovative Integrated Starter-Generator. It teams with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery to supply power for formerly belt-driven components like the water pump and air-conditioning compressor. These advancements help reduce weight and enhance underhood packaging. In addition, the electric assist can generate additional, gas-free power and torque for immediate response.
An ECO Start/Stop system automatically shuts off the engine at stoplights and other idle situations, to save fuel and reduce emissions. As soon as the driver lifts off the brake, the engine instantly restarts, for quick acceleration response. An added benefit of the Integrated Starter-Generator is how it can make the restart process more seamlessly smooth than ever before. The ECO Start/Stop system can also be shut off by the driver at any time.
Pioneered by Mercedes-Benz, active LED headlamps can generate light that's perceived much like natural daylight. Active Curve Illumination and Adaptive Highbeam Assist continuously adjust the beam pattern of the LEDs in each headlamp to help maximize the illumination of corners and straightaways, without creating glare for other drivers. An Ultra Wide Highbeam feature is designed to better illuminate the road and the environment along either side.
At the touch of a button, the tinted glass sunroof tilts up at the rear for ventilation, or slides open for a breezy view of the sky. An express feature fully opens or closes the roof with a single touch, and a manual sliding sunshade helps block out unwanted sunlight.
The GLS offers truly luxurious seating for seven adults, standard. A no-charge 6-seat option features power 2nd-row captain's chairs with walk-through 3rd-row access.
Front seats are heated, ventilated and available with massage. The second row offers similar luxuries. Even the armrests can be heated. Ionizer-purified air can soothe the whole cabin with a subtle infusion of fragrance.
Four individual zones offer personalized comfort to each side of the front cabin, the second row, and the third row. In addition to fully automatic or manual control of blower speed and airflow distribution, the system includes sun and humidity sensors, a dust/pollen filter, and an activated charcoal filter that automatically recirculates cabin air upon detecting a significant increase in smog. The in-dash controls can adjust all zones, while a 2nd-row panel can also adjust the rear cabin.
One of the most respected makers of handcrafted high-end home audio, Germany's Burmester® has developed a surround-sound system specifically for the GLS. Thirteen high-quality speakers including twin FrontBass® subwoofers and a 590-watt 9-channel digital amplifier can fill the cabin with pure digital surround sound while seamlessly compensating for ambient noise. Exquisitely detailed metal speaker grilles are as rewarding to the eyes as the system's output is to the most discerning ears.
State-of-the-art USB-C connectors allow plug-and-play enjoyment from your compatible devices as well as fast charging of your phone. With two in the front console, two more for the second row, and four more in the third row, there's a port within reach of every passenger.
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship for 48-months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For added protection, the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty offers continued peace of mind with prolonged coverage tailored to your needs.
The first system of its kind, ATTENTION ASSIST® continuously monitors up to 70 parameters of driving behavior, and can automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips. With enhanced sensitivity, the system can also help detect drivers who begin their trip drowsy, and offer more useful information to drivers along their journey via a dashboard display.
When traveling above approximately 20 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. An audible warning sounds if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. After parking, enhancements can also alert the driver or passengers to vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.
A Mercedes-Benz first, PRE-SAFE® can detect instability during certain vehicle maneuvers that suggest a collision or rollover is imminent. It can then tighten the front seat belts, adjust the front passenger seat, and close the windows and sunroof, all in an effort to better prepare the occupants and restraints in the moments before a collision. If no accident occurs, the seat-belt tensioners reverse, and you simply readjust your seat, open the sunroof and continue on your way.
An advanced system of 7 air bags offers 11-way occupant protection. Dual two-stage front air bags, front side-impact air bags, a driver's knee air bag, and side curtain air bags for all three seating rows are standard.
